This very different cactus originates from the rainforest of Mexico and has uniquely shaped long, flat stems resembling a fishbone, hence its name! The stems begin by growing upright but as they grow longer will eventually trail down. This is an epiphytic plant meaning it grows aerial roots as in its natural environment the cactus would anchor itself to a host tree.
indirect, bright light (for example not on a windowsill that gets direct sun at any point in the day). In later summer/early autumn make sure the plant receives a little full sun (although not peak afternoon heat), this will encourage it to produce flowers.
The fishbone cactus is fast growing and low maintenance. It can stand a little unintentional neglect. Super long stems can be pruned, and new stems will usually grow from the cut making the plant look fuller. Water regularly through the warmer months but as with all Cactus do let this plant dry out between watering. Water less frequently during the winter months. Water from the bottom by standing in a dish of water.
This is an ideal plants for bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms and studies and is best in a hanging pot or trailing over a shelf.
This plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs.
